The Surgical Area COI:
The latest implant treatments

The current developments in dentistry allow the use of surgical techniques for the replacement of teeth using implants or gum recovery through microsurgery. In order to be able to apply these techniques, surgical equipment of the highest level is necessary with which a correct execution of the odontological treatment can be guaranteed. Clinica Odontológica Integral (COI) has started up its new surgical area in which to develop these operations. And, as we are an integrated clinic, it is the centre itself which carries out the monitoring and studies the evolution of the patient, thanks to its team of specialised dentists.
Today's dental patient wants effective and lasting solutions. Modern dentistry has developed completely new techniques which offer a wide range of solutions for the different oral and dental problems. Some of these solutions require the use of new surgical techniques. This is the case with dental implants. With these, we can achieve a complete recuperation of dental functions, with completely natural appearance, utilizing an implant on which we carry out the replacement of the missing tooth. The positioning of a dental implant requires sophisticated precision surgical equipment and solid experience in the treatment of the patient, but what's more it must be carried out in the best possible conditions. For this reason Clinica Odontológica Integral (COI) has put into service its new surgical area. As Doctor Arias, director of COI, explains, "It is a modern odontological operating theatre where our team of professionals, made up of three doctors specialised in diverse areas of dentistry, carry out those treatments which require a complex operation." The surgical area at COI allows the vital signs of the patient to be monitored during the treatment, and in addition we can control those variables which could affect the operation, such as ambient temperature, humidity, etc. and allow monitoring of the evolution of the operation at all times.

The technological equipment at COI allows us to perform complex techniques of bone regeneration. This type of operation is necessary in those cases in which the bone structure of the patient is not sufficient to support an implant. The regeneration technique allows the development of the bone in such a way that those problematic areas which have been found to be affected by a retraction in bone mass become suitable to receive the implant. This type of treatment requires an exhaustive monitoring by the team of COI doctors before, during and after the operation. For this reason, before the surgical treatment, we carry out a detailed study of the bone which will receive the implant using technology (scanner, bone mapping and x-ray equipment) which allow us to know the parameters of the state of the bone in the area which will receive the implant: calcification (calcium levels), thickness, hardness, etc. Once this analysis and the relevant study have been carried out, the dental surgeon decides to deal with the implant in the most convenient way.

The post operation monitoring consists of a programme of periodical visits to the dentist, who checks the state of the implant once it is stable. The final phase of the process is undertaken by the department of Oral rehabilitation at COI. This team is in charge of creating a new tooth similar to the natural tooth, in function as well as appearance, which the dentist will adapt to the patient's mouth.

Prevention.
Prevention is essential to maintain correct oral health. COI cares about this aspect of the care of your teeth and periodically checks the state of its patients' mouths. The objective is the detection of serious mouth diseases like periodontal disease. This is a disease that affects the gums and in advanced states it can cause the loss of teeth. "Patients may not be aware of suffering gingivitis because it does not cause any pain. This disease shows itself with the bleeding of gums, but sometimes the patient does not think it is important" Doctor Arias explains. "In an initial state the periodontal disease or pyorrhoea can be treated with excellent results but in an advanced state it is much more complex." The evolution of this disease shows with swollen gums, dental mobility and finally the loss of teeth. COI applies the latest treatments focused on detecting this disease. Also, in extreme cases microsurgery techniques allow a reconstruction of the gum and recovery of the bone to proceed finally to the use of dental implants. With these both functions and aesthetics of a healthy mouth are recovered.
